Review of the Special Shaolin Kungfu Course of 16th to 22nd April 2007 – Part 115

REAL FIGHTING IS DIFFERENT FROM MARTIAL SPORTS
Protect Yourselves as You Move in for a Throw

Shaolin Kung Fu

Sifu Eugene uses the pattern "Green Frog Crouches on Ground" to pin Adam onto the ground

Some people forget that real fighting is different from martial sports. In a martial sport like Judo or Wrestling, an attack may be exposed while attacking yet he may not be hurt because he is protected by safety rules. But safety rules do not apply in real fighting. As you grab your opponent’s legs for a shoot, he may smash your head or gorge out your eyes. As Shaolin disciples we do normally do not use such drastic techniques, but we must be prepared that our opponents may use them.

Shaolin Kung Fu Wrestling Throws and Shaolin Felling Techniques

Now the course participants review the various Wrestling throws. Being a properly trained Shaolin disciple, Sifu Eugene is about to lock Adam’s two hands for coverage, but Grandmaster Wong says that for this training session, we would use Wrestling throws instead of Shaolin felling techniques. This is the shoot. .

Shaolin Kung Fu Similar to but Not Quite the Same

Shaolin Kung Fu Drunken Man Retains Friend

Here the Wrestling neck throw is the same as the Shaolin pattern “Drunken Man Retains Friend”. Do you know why they are the same here, whereas in other video clips they are not quite. The main reason is that here Sifu Eugene has covered himself safely. .

Shaolin Kung Fu Striking the Attacker’s Head

Sifu Eugene applies a Wrestling Uplift, which is similar to but not quite the same as “Lohan Empties Rucksack”. Notice that without safety rules, the opponent could have hit the attacker’s head with his left hand during the throw. .

Shaolin Kung Fu Striking with the Free Hand

Adam fells Peter with a shoot and pins him down. Notice that during the fall Peter could have struck Adam with his left hand, and while being pinned on the ground Peter could also attack Adam with his left hand. A single strike by an exponent with internal force can be quite damaging. Without the protection of safety rules, such an attack can be suicidal.

Shaolin Kung Fu Importance to Know how to Fall Safely

Sifu Roland fells Peter with a shoot. Again the shooting attack can be dangerous for the attacker. It is quite obvious that Peter could deliver deadly strikes both in the process of the shoot as well as while on the ground. Those who are not properly trained are warned not to attempt this demonstration, because not knowing how to fall safely may result in a fractured spine. .
