SHAOLIN KUNGFU FOR COMBAT EFFICIENCY, GOOD HEALTH AND SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT

Free Sparring using Kungfu Forms

Kungfu has been debased so badly that today many kungfu practitioners, including some masters, believe that kungfu cannot be used for fighting. Worse, due to the internal injuries they have sustained in Kick-Boxing style free sparring, they become more unhealthy as a result of their practice. Moreover, most practitioners regard kungfu as purely physical, alienating the spiritual aspect.

We are happy and proud that in our school we practice kungfu for combat efficiency as well as good health and spiritual development. These three integrated aspects are highlighted in the completion of this Special Shaolin Kungfu Course. After free sparring using Shaolin patterns, course participants enjoy a vigorous chi flow which promote health, and conclude with Standing Meditation where may of them experience spiritual joys.

Course participants practice free sparring. One partner uses other martial arts and the other uses Shaolin Kungfu. In the foreground, Steve uses Judo to attack Nick, and Andy and Sifu Zhang Wuji use Kick-Boxing to attack Molly and Eugene Butterworth.

Using Sequences to Attack Opponents

Grandmaster Wong shares with the course participants an important secret for effective combat. He asks those using Shaolin Kungfu to apply any sequence they have compose to attack their opponent who uses other martial arts. The other martial artists would be at a lost to counter Shaolin attack patterns.

Sparring at the Technique-Level

Sparring partners on side A use Shaolin Kungfu whereas those on side B use any other martial arts. The Shaolin participants, however, have not used sequences in their sparring. They only use techniques. In other words, the sparring here is at the technique-level

Shaolin Kungfu against other Martial Arts

Participants using Shaolin Kungfu are able to handle those using martial art techniques. It is heartening to see genuine Shaolin Kungfu in action. Who says kungfu cannot be used for fighting?

Using Shaolin Sequences for Attacking

Now the participants use Shaolin sequences. They are able to force their opponents back. Their opponents also use Shaolin patterns because if they use other martial arts they would find that they are limited in techniques for combat.

Using Shaolin Patterns in Sparring

Course participants use Shaolin Kungfu as this gives them the best advantages in combat. None of the movements are pre-arranged. The participants can spar freely using Shaolin patterns because they have been trained to do so.

Advantages of Using Shaolin Kungfu

Participants can choose to use Shaolin Kungfu or other martial arts, but they choose Shaolin Kungfu because it gives than better advantages. If they use other martial arts, which are limited in techniques, they may be unable to defend against certain attacks.

Shaolin Kungfu in Free Sparring

All the movements here are spontaneous. The course participants can use kungfu patterns in free sparring because they have been systematically trained to do so. They can attack in sequences and respond spontaneously and correctly.

This is Not a Zoo

shaolin kung fu

This is not a zoo. Course participants are enjoying a vigorous chi flow after free sparring practice. They can go to chi flow without performing “chi kung” exercises first because their sparring itself is chi kung. Making interesting noises is an effective way to clear some deep-rooted blockage.

Training of Energy and Mind

After chi flow, the participants proceed to Standing Zen. Shaolin kungfu is a training of energy and mind besides the physical body. Participants often experience spiritual joys during their meditation.
