Secrets of the Internal Force Masters
Intensive Taijiquan Course, Penang,
5th to 11th September 2008 – Part 58
DO YOU KNOW WHY TAIJIQUAN IS OFTEN PERFORMED SLOWLY?
Do you know what benefits can be better obtained when Taijiquan is performed slowly?
Do you know why Taijiquan is often performed slowly, especially at the earlier stages?
When the patterns are performed slowly it is easier to check that the movements are correct and smooth, achieving what is often referred to as “no beginning no ending”. Another important reason is to generate an internal energy flow. Thirdly, it facilitates sensing an opponent’s movements as well as intention, and then using his momentum to overcome him.
Of course, Taijiquan can, and should, be perform very fast too.
