STANCE TRAINING FOR INTERNAL FORCE AND PEAK PERFORMANCE
In the past all kungfu practitioners spent some time in zhan zhuang, or stance training. This was, and is, because stance training develops internal force which contributes not only to combat but also to peak performance.
It is commonly believed that stance training is an endurance test, i.e. the more one endures the stances the better he performs. This is not so. Actually stance training is a relaxation exercise. The more a person relaxes, including keeping his mind clear of thoughts, the better he performs in stance training.
You should practice stance training daily for at least 3 months. But start comfortably and be relaxed. Many beginners can last for only about 3 minutes. Gradually increase the time of stance training, but still be relaxed, to 15 minutes or more.
