GRASPING SPARROW'S TAIL -- THE MECHANICS OF TAIJIQUAN

There are five parts in "Grasping Sparrow's Tail" which are, in Chinese, "peng", "lu", "li", "cheng" and "an", or ward off, roll back, push forward, sink, and in contact.

We in Shaolin Wahnam have given poetic names to the five patterns, namely "Immortal Waves Sleeves", "Double Dragons Play with Water", "Push Boat According to Current", "Black Bear Sinks Hips" and "Open Window to Look at Moon".

The five patterns in "Grasping Sparrow's Tail" are first performed in steps, and then smoothly, following the Taijiquan principle that once started there is no beginning and no ending, thus contributing to internal force.
