PHONG SAU AND KHAM SAU AGAINST MIDDLE ATTACKS

Wing Choon Kungfu

Grandmaster Wong uses a phoenix-eye fist to execute a middle level attack

Phong Sau (also spelt as Bong Sau by some schools), or Supporting Hand, is an interesting technique and is frequently used in Wing Choon Kungfu. As its name imples, it is not a block; its effectivness lies in waist rotation which deflects an opponent's middle attack, with the defenders hand acting as a guard or support. The Kham Sau, or Cover-Hand, is also an effective defence, especially when the attack is from the in-gate.
