FRIENDLY FREE SPARRING BETWEEN SHAOLIN WAHNAM AND KINABALU FIGHTERS
We wish to thank Master Julian Johan Lee and his Kinabalu Fighters for the friendly free sparring at the Kinabalu Fighters Gym in Kinabalu on 22nd July 2012.
The Kinabalu Fighters is a well-known martial art school in Sabah and has won many free sparring competitions.
Those who represented Shaolin Wahnam just completed an Intensive Shaolin Kungfu Course at the Kinabalu National Park from 17th to 21st July 2012, and some of them had not fought in a ring before. The free sparring was an invaluable experience.
Excellent control and good fellowship were shown, and there were no injuries. The match ended with a draw and everyone adjourned to supper happily. It was a splendid demonstration that friendly sparring can be a lot of fun. It is also a great inspiration for those who fear entering a ring or arena for free sparring against other martiial artists to break their emotional blockage.
The rules of the matches were as follows:
- One 5-minute round
- No elbow strikes
- No trips
- Only 1 knee strike during clinch
- No strikes behind the head. groin, spine and throat
- No eye poking or biting
