TAIJIQUAN PATTERNS AND SEQUENCES ARE MEANT FOR COMBAT APPLICATION

Sequence 2 of "Old Eagle Catches Snake" is shown here. It is interesting that if you perform the sequence in solo many people watching it may not realize its combat applications. This is actually the case with kungfu sets today. Originally the sets were composed from patterns and sequences used in combat. But over time the combat applications were lost and today many kungfu practitioners perform their sets only for demonstration, resulting in kungfu becoming "flowery fists and embroidery kicks".
