Green Dragon Tests Claw -- a typical Baguazhang pattern

The Swimming Dragon Baguazhang Set is derived from the Eight Mother Palms, manifesting in sixty four palms in eight sequences, with eight palms in each sequence for each of the eight mother palms. In Baguazhang philosophy, the Eight Mother Palms constitute the Form, while the Sixty Four Palms constitute the Application.

There are many more combat applications in the set than sixty four, but the sixty four palms highlight the main combat features of Baguazhang, including its hallmark of agile footwork and dragon movements. How to get to the back of opponents, or prevent them from getting to your back, as well as effective counters against other martial arts are found in the set.

The set is performed slowly so that you can learn it easily. However, if you cannot learn it in time fro the Baguazhang course at the UK Summer Camp of 2012 from 18th to 22nd June, it is alright. The set and its application together with internal force training and using chi flow for fast movements, will be taught at the course.

4th June 2012, Sungai Petani.
