Question 1
On May 2020, I bought your books: (1) Chi Kung for Health and Vitality, (2) The Art of Chi kung.
But I have problem with high blood pressure. Can you suggest what particular dynamic patterns I should practice to make my blood pressure become normal?
— Darmi, Indonesia
Answer
"Lifting the Sky" and "Carrying the Moon" are two of the three chi kung exercises I teach at the Intensive Chi Kung Course. The other exercise I teach at the course is "Pushing Mountain".I teach 3 exercises at the Intensive Chi Kung Course, which are "Lifting the Sky", "Pushing Mountain" and "Carrying the Moon". These three chi kung exercises are techniques.
The important factors are skills, which are entering into a chi kung state of mind, and generating energy flow. In a chi kung course, especially for those new to chi kung, skills are more important than techniques. In other words, it is not so important as what techniques you learn in a chi kung course, but how you perform the techniques so that you can enter into a chi kung state of mind and experience energy flow.
Most "chi kung" practitioners cannot enter into a chi kung state of mind, and cannot generate energy flow. They only practice gentle, physical exercise. Many of them remain sickly and weak.
Regarding your question, a useful chi kung exercise is "Shooting Arrows". However, if you have the skills of entering into a chi kung state of mind and experiencing energy flow, you can perform any chi kung technique.
That is why I teach only three chi kung techniques in the Intensive Chi Kung Course. Skills are more important. Besides learning how to enter into a chi kung state of mind and to generate energy flow, you also learn how to tap energy from the Cosmos, direct energy to wherever you want in your body, develop mental clarity and internal force, and to be peaceful and happy.
Because I have been teaching chi kung for more than 40 years, I can transmit these skills and techniques during the few days of the Intensive Chi Kung Course. If you do not have these skills and techniques, you don't have to pay any fee. Please read The Unbelievable Intensive Chi Kung Course.
I shall offer the Intensive Chi Kung Course later in 2021 or 2022. Please see my website for details of the course.
Question 2
Maybe it is not important, but I would like to clarify the following. The questions are meant to be put into the discussion forum for our students to discuss. And the questions were not asked by me alone.
Low, medium and high level Kung Fu / Chi Kung posted by me.
Negative Emotions posted by Sifu Andrew Barnett.
18 Lohan Hands posted by Sifu Leonard Luckinger.
— Sifu Marc Harnisch, Shaolin Wahnam Germany
Answer
It is lovely that you mentioned the questions were not posed by you alone.
I am particularly impressed that you have mentioned the following:
"A beginner must first experience that low level techniques are often more useful to achieve the goals. That is why it is so important to follow the instructions of the master."
"If you compare 'Lifting the Sky' with 'Flicking Fingers' from Sinew Metamorphosis, then 'Flicking Fingers' has a higher level because it generates more internal force and greater chi flow."
I really don't want to be presumptuous, but it is true that what a Shaolin Wahnam Family member can attain in one month, I took more than one year to attain in my student's days. It was probably more, as I had excellent teachers and I followed my teachers' instructions exactly.
For example I took more that 20 years to beat genuine masters and professional fighters, and also more that 20 years to have internal force. Much of my progress occurred as I started teaching about 40 years ago.
I remember Andrew (Sifu Andrew Barnett of Switzerland) asked me an interesting question. He asked what was the highest art I had learnt. My answer then was "Golden Bell". But if he were to ask me the same question now, it would be any arts that give good health, vitality and longevity.
Leo (Sifu Leonard Luckinger of Austria) is an inspiration. He has, like your sifu of Germany, the biggest class, and is one of my students who has passed the wonderful benefits to posterity.
Question 3
Can I please ask, is it ok to go over the information and check if you feel it needs anything added, deleted or corrected in any way?
— James, England
Answer
Please add the following.
About 80% of practitioners today practice gentle, physical exercise, and they don't realize it. Hence, many practitioners are weak and sick, though genuine chi kung is supposed to contribute to good health, vitality and longevity.
We in Shaolin Wahnam practice genuine, high level chi kung. Besides contributing to good health, vitality and longevity, high level chi kung also contributes to peak performance and spiritual joys irrespective of religion.
Question 4
My plan will be to teach Shaolin Wahnam chi kung only.
— Sifu Christina Didyk, Shaolin Wahnam St Pete, USA
Answer
Focusing fully on raising your children and caring for your parents are your priority. You did very well as an acupuncturist, and I am proud of you. You saved many lives.
But I think teaching genuine chi kung healing has greater potential. There are so many so-called incurable diseases in Western medicine, but Western pharmaceutical companies and Western trained doctors, who have great respect from the public, should make sugar-coated pills with different flavours instead of practicing genuine chi kung which takes much time. They will be financially and spiritually wealthy.
Most people practice gentle, physical exercise, which they don't know. Gentle, physical exercise does not contribute to good health, vitality and longevity. Hence, many "chi kung" practitioners are weak and sick. Genuine chi kung practiced today is low level, and these practitioners eventually become masters.
I like your expression "I prefer to teach fishing than continue to hand out fish!" We must charge high fees. Paying a high fee is one effective way that patients value our teaching, or else he (or she) may not practice. It is important that patients practice our art which is very rare today.
Question 5
I have some thoughts about creating very simple chi kung courses for basic health level to be sold online. When my thoughts are clear I would like to ask your blessing to consider this course of action.
Answer
Personally I do not favour teaching online, as I believe it may change genuine chi kung to a dance and kungfu into kungfu gymnastics. Taijiquan, or Tai Chi Chuan in English, is a good analogy. There are no internal force and no combat application in much of Taijiquan practiced today.
But I do not object to teaching online.
Making money is not your concern. You are rich. Focus on raising your children and taking care of your parents. Although I am not as rich as you are, I am very happy. I have done what my sifu, Sifu Ho Fatt Nam, meant when he told me to spread genuine, high level kungfu to the world irrespective of culture and religion. I have travelled the world teaching genuine, high level chi kung and kungfu. I may travel the world occasionally, but now I focus on giving intensive courses in Penang, which is known as "the pearl of the Orient" in Malaysia.
You must be happy every day. Chris (Sifu Chris Didyk) is a wonderful husband. I will see you and Chris again.
Question 6
One of my students posed an interesting issue. While she is experiencing qi flow, she actually is having a hard time enjoying it and said that she didn't like the movement.
— Sifu Molly Kubinski, Shaolin Wahnam Twin Cities, USA
Answer
I believe the recovering alcoholic was undergoing an emotional problem. She just has to let the chi flow go on. It will cleanse her of her emotional problem, which she probably had in past lives.
She has to let go if she doesn't want to be an alcoholic. She can imagine the things she would like to do. Her chi flow is good for her.
Later when she has completely recovered, she can drink alcohol if she wants to. She drinks because of her needs, not because she is allergic to alcohol.
Question 7
She is a recovering alcoholic, so she no longer drinks alcohol, and she said that qi flow reminded her of being drunk, and asked how she could enjoy her qi flow if this was the case. She also said she had a hard time letting go of control over her body
Answer
You are right in saying she is undergoing a deep emotional blockage, which is bad for her.
She probably had her emotional blockage in her previous lives. Other things might be cleansed out. Later she will thank you for her experience.
She can go not as deep in her chi kung state of mind. Remember that our chi kung is "high" to other people not in our school.
Question 8
Is her reaction a sign that I am perhaps teaching at too high a level, or was this advice I gave appropriate? I've never had a student express this before and I am grateful to any guidance Sifu could give me on the matter.
Answer
You are teaching at a too high a level.
Remember that I took about 20 years to have a vigorous chi flow like what a typical student in Shaolin Wahnam has, and about 25 years to defeat other masters and professional fighters in combat.
The advice you gave her was appropriate. She could think of pleasant things.
If you have any questions, please e-mail them to Grandmaster Wong via his Secretary at stating your name, country and e-mail address.
