PEARLS, PEARLS
Pearls, Pearls
-
Pearls, pearls, countless pearls
floating on the shimmering lake
and yet
as the misty fountain jets
rain noisily on the trembling face
ever more pearls are made
Beautiful you are
you dazzle me like the milky way
your sun-lit sparkle
makes me elated and gay
Gay -- yes, but only for awhile
Then my gaiety vanishes
as you bubble away
Pearls, pearls, deceiving pearls
How many eyes have you deceived
Just how many eyes
And how may deceived hearts
have wasted away and died
Oh you vanishing pearls
You bubble away
leaving me pensive and sad
for you are unreal
and there are pearls no more
