ELEMENT OF THREAT IN COMBAT

Shaolin Kungfu against Other Martial Arts

There must be an element of threat in combat

A common mistake amongst some students is that their sparring lacks an element of threat. Threatening your opponent is an important aspect of Shaolin combat. On the other hand, if your opponent is aggressive, you need not be threaten. Use body movement to avoid his force and exploit his weakness. Grandmaster Wong again emphasizes that you deflect and brush off a Boxer's attacks, not block them.
