USING THE SPEAR AGAINST THE BUTERFLY KNIVES AND THE BIG KNIFE

How would you use a spear to handle an opponent using a pair of Butterfly Knives?
How would you defend against an opponent using a pair of Butterfly Knives or a Big Knife? Today, many people learn only the outward forms of the spear without understanding their combat application. Hence they would not be able to defend themselves against the Butterfly Knives, the Big Knife or other weapons.
A skillful exponent with Butterfly Knives can be very formidable, as the participants have found out from their direct experience. On the other hand, a Big Knife has the advantage of both length and weight.
Besides other techniques, circling and shooting are very effective techniques of the spear against the Butterfly Knives and the Big Knife. Do you know how these techniques are used?

A pair of Butterfly Knives is used against a spear. After deflecting the shoot of a spear, the exponent moves along the spear shaft into the opponent. When the opponent tries to retreat, the exponent follows closely.

Here is a more sophisticated way of moving into an opponent holding a spear. The exponent sandwiches the spear-shaft with his Butterfly Knives, making it difficult for the spearman to escape.

The spearman used a circling technique to escape the sandwiching of the Butterfly Knives. After escaping the “lock” of the Butterfly Knives, the spearman pulls back his spear and shoots forward at the opponent.

When you circle your spear in an anti-clockwise movement to escape the lock of the Butterfly Knives, a skillful exponent may neutralize your circling technique. You can trick him by reversing the circling movement, using clockwise circling.

A Big Knife, like the one shown in the video clip, is often used against a spear. Many practitioners grip the shaft of the Big Knife at the blade. This is incorrect as it negates the length-advantage of the Big Knife. One might well hold a saber instead. The grip should be at the lower hand of the shaft so as to gain advantage of the long weapon.

If an opponent shoots a spear at you, you can deflect the shooting attack and then move in to chop at the opponent. If you wish to use a spear well, you need to know how to counter this attack from a Big Knife.
